Kellswater is named to honor the Scots-Irish heritage of this part of North Carolina. Many of the first settlers in this region originally came to the South Carolina coast aboard five ships on a journey organized by the Reverend William Martin. The passengers were members of Martin’s churches in the northern province of Ulster, Ireland in the area commonly known as Kellswater. Street names in Kellswater Bridge are from geographical sites in the province of Ulster or are family names from the passenger logs of the five ships led by the Rev. Martin.
